Today, we’re taking an in-depth look at the GoTrax GKS electric scooter. I bought this scooter about a week ago for my kids. They were excited to give it a ride because they thought it looked like a cool ride. I love the GoTrax GKS because it’s a cheap electric scooter. In fact, it is one of the cheapest electric scooters for kids you can find right now. Let’s dive into what makes this GoTrax GKS a solid, sturdy, safe scooter for your kid’s ages 6-12.
The GoTrax GKS Build:
I don’t know about you but I am crazy about finding out nearly every tiny detail about things I buy before I buy them. When I was looking for a cheap electric scooter for my kids, the GoTrax GKS fit the bill. However, I wondered what kind of quality I would get for the money. Take a look at the pictures below and decide for yourself but, I do have to tell you, this scooter is packing a lot of punch for such a small price. Below, I have assembled photos that were taken during each step of the build process for the GoTrax GKS. It took me about 20 minutes to put the scooter together and that includes the time I was snapping pictures for this article.
Putting the GoTrax scooter together was really easy. The instructions in the quick guide were really simple and easy to follow. All the tools you need are inside the box as well. My kids watched as I put the scooter together however, both of them (both are under 12 years old) could have easily put the scooter together in no time flat.
Wheels and Deck of The GoTrax GKS:
Again, I was expecting to get a cheap electric scooter and many times, you get what you pay for! However, not this time. When we opened the box and laid out all of the parts, we discovered them to be sturdy and substantial. I wouldn’t say the scooter is “heavy,” with it weighing in at about 18 pounds but just right for the ages in which it is suited.
The 6″ wheels are solid rubber with plenty of traction. While the kids haven’t yet tested it off-road, I certainly will encourage them not to because this one isn’t made for off road action.
One of the only issues that my kids have with this scooter is with the deck. They are both tall kids and have big feet for their age (no, not freakishly big, thank you very much). Both of them said the deck felt small and their feet felt a bit cramped when riding the scooter.
However, that comment was fleeting and both of them commented on how much non-skid was on the deck, giving them a nice sturdy grip for their shoes..
Charging this Cheap Electric Scooter for Kids:
Out of the GoTrax GKS Electric scooter did have a bit of a charge. In the manual they tell you that it takes approximately 5 hours to charge the scooter. Well, as soon as the scooter was built, it went on the charger.
There is a little LED light on the charger indicating whether it’s charging (red light) or if charging is complete and you’re ready to ride (green light).
Out of the box — the first charge — it took 54 minutes!
Not bad – especially when you have two kids that have been waiting days to get their little hands on this blue electric scooter.
