If you're making a scooter purchase, it's important to balance price and quality so that you get the best of both worlds. You don't want to opt for something that's too low priced, only to sacrifice quality.
However, you don't want to spend a ton of money if you've never owned an electric scooter before, as you don't know how much you'll like it until you try it. Instead, it's important to spend some time evaluating scooters online. Then, you can select the scooter that's best for you and meets your needs.
Careful online research can help you learn about the features of various models so that you can decide which electric scooter works best for an adult, which is best for commuting, or best for kids. However, this research can be time-consuming, so we've taken the work out of it for you.
Overall, GoTrax Provides Quality and Value
GoTrax as a brand is focused on creating amazing scooters at reasonable prices. They do their best to come up with affordable options for your commute, that will stand the test of time and are worth far more than you'll pay for them.
When you need high value for the money you're spending, GoTrax is the brand I recommend nearly every time. We specialize in scooters here at EnvyRide, and we've tested most of the GoTrax models available.
They truly have a great range of scooters for adults and kids. Whether you're looking for a budget scooter or a higher end commuter scooter, they have something that will suit your needs.
Let's look through the best GoTrax scooters for adults, as well as for teens and kids, so that you can find the GoTrax scooter that best meets your needs.
Best Overall Electric Scooter: GoTrax Gmax Ultra
The best overall GoTrax Scooter, by far, is the GoTrax Gmax Ultra Electric Scooter. It's got an overall great ride, and is an excellent vehicle for a really decent price. This scooter has a published max speed of 25 mph, even when it's going up hills. We tested it and top speed wasn't quite 25 (our max speed was 22 mph which is still really fast for a consumer grade electric scooter).
This makes it an excellent option whether you need a scooter for entertainment, for regular transportation, or just for getting to and from work.
At 25 mph, there aren't a lot of competitors in the market that have this kind of speed at a reasonable price point.
Sure, you can spend a few thousand dollars and get a "pro" model, but GoTrax is focused on providing scooter models for the masses at a good price and the Gmax Ultra fits that bill speed. With the Gmax Ultra you'll be able to get around town, get to work, or just enjoy your leisure time a bit more comfortably.
Gotrax has added some new upgrades to their scooter lineup (including the Gmax Ultra) after listening to customer feedback, including a brighter headlight and a large, bright LED dashboard so that you can see all of the information that you need the most when you're out for a ride.
This makes it easier to see everything that you need, no matter the time of day, and also makes you easier to see for the ultimate in safety.
This scooter is made strong enough for long range riding, great for short trips around the block, and made tough enough to stand up to every day commuting.
We highly recommend it as the best overall scooter option for those who need a sturdy, dependable, mid-priced electric scooter. It's a great workhorse for getting you around town.
Best Commuter Scooter: GoTrax GXL V2
The Gotrax GXL V2 is a reliable scooter with a reasonable price. Like it's predecessor the GoTrax GXL, version 2 of this scooter is extremly popular and for good reason.
The scooter is easy to carry, has a smooth ride, dual braking system, and cruise control. It's got a max speed of 15.5 mph and some core features that make it a great option for commuters.
While it doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the GoTrax G4 or GoTrax Gmax Ultra, it packs a lot of punch for the price.
Large Pneumatic Tires Make for a Smooth Ride
In addition, the scooter has pneumatic tires, designed to even out the rough patches on the road so that you can enjoy one of the smoothest rides available.
These ultra cushy tires help ensure that you're comfortable no matter your route, as well as keeping your tires from developing punctures. Pre-slimed tires help fill in punctures as they develop, saving you the trouble of an expensive puncture or flat tire while providing a smooth ride.
Dual Braking System Stops Quick
The Gotrax GXL commuter V2 also features a dual brake system, operated by hand lever. This lever controls both the rear disc brake and the front electric brakes, providing fast, smooth braking for the ultimate in safety. As commuters are frequently in situations where they need to stop suddenly, this dual braking system is especially important.
The Gotrax GXL scooter V2 also makes an excellent budget scooter for commuters, as it's easy to store, as well as to fold up, pick up, and carry.
When you need to commute using your scooter, it's vitally important that you can pick it up and carry it with you. This GoTrax model fits the bill. It's ultra-portable and easy to transport.
It does, however, take a little longer than other models to fold up. If that matters to you, be aware of this small drawback. It is light, folds well, and fits well almost anywhere that you need it to - from under your bus seat to under your desk.
The GoTrax GXL V2 electric scooter is a great option for individuals who need an electronic scooter for commuting or someone that is looking for a cheap electric scooter. It offers a wide range of high-end features at a mid-range price that's easy to afford.
All of these features add up to a great commuter vehicle. You can still purchase the GXL electric scooter but, the way I look at it, if you can get a newer version (the GXL V2) then why buy an older, outdated model?

Best Electric Scooter for Kids: GoTrax Lumios
In our opinion, the GKS Lumios is the best electric scooter for kids from GoTrax. We love the LED lights on the wheels. Not only are the lights on the wheels fun but they provide an element of safety that the other GoTrax kids scooters dont provide. From a speed perspective, the Lumios is the fastest of the GoTrax kids lineup because it boasts the largest motor at 200 watts. The range is comparable to the GKS Pro so the the lights and the speed are what put this model on top of our list for the best electric scooter for kids from GoTrax.
Honorable Mention: GoTrax XR Ultra
If you're looking for the best scooter for an older kid or even a teen, over and above the kids models and the teen models that GoTrax has, we think the XR Ultra fits the bill.
The Gotrax XR Ultra is an upgraded version of the Gotrax GXL and the GXL V2, which spent quite some time as the best selling electric scooter on the market. This scooter is a great overall value for kids and teenagers, as it combines value with speed and safety. It's a light, fun scooter that makes the perfect option for your teen or tween on the move, allowing them to zip around your neighborhood with ease.
The Gotrax XR Ultra is a great option for kids, with a top speed of 15.5 mph and a battery that can reach up to a 16 mile range with one charge. This versatile scooter is extraordinarily light, weighing in at around 26 pounds. This makes it a great option for teens and tweens, as it's a reasonable weight for them to carry on their own without needing an adult's assistance. This scooter folds at the stem, so it's easy for your teen to grab it and go. It's a portable transportation option that's great for providing them with independence, whether they're zipping around town or heading off to school. Kids with summer babysitting jobs or sports practices are sure to enjoy being able to get to and from these events on their own, without the need to schedule a ride with one of the adults in the family.
The Gotrax XR Ultra features 8.5 inch air filled tires, as well as a dual braking system. It's disc brakes help create fast, smooth stops, creating safe transportation for your teen or tween. This is a solid option when you're looking for an electric scooter for your teenager, so that they can get where they need to go around your neighborhood.
The GoTrax XR Ultra is a great around town scooter, capable of transporting your teen anywhere that they'll need to go safely and effectively.
Selecting the Best GoTrax Scooter for Your Needs
As you select your GoTrax Scooter, there are numerous things that you'll want to take into account. You'll want to think about how often you'll be using the scooter, what type of terrain you need to be able to ride it on, and whether you'll be riding it only during the daytime or if you'll also need a model with excellent lighting.
GoTrax scooters are known for their smooth ride, so it's likely that you'll be comfortable no matter which option you choose. You'll also need to think about how much money you'd like to invest in your scooter.
Do you plan to utilize it as an occasional toy? If so, you may not want to spend as much money, as you're selecting something that you'll only be playing with on the weekends and in the evenings.
Are you purchasing a commuter scooter? It may well be worth the investment to enjoy the features that matter most to you as you head to work each day. You'll need something reliable and safe, so that you can take it to work and know that you'll be able to arrive on time, safely, on a daily basis.
There are a variety of GoTrax models available, at a wide range of price points. Whether you only have $400 to spend on a scooter as you break into the market, or would prefer to invest $1000 (or more), there's an electric scooter available to fit the bill.
The market is wide and variable, ensuring that anyone who wants the chance to ride can try out a scooter. Let's spend some time examining the best option available for each price, so you can decide which works best for the money you're interested in investing.
We'll go over features, benefits, the best types of scooter for each price point, and which scooters are best for both adults and teenagers. Then you can use this information to make an informed decision about the type of scooter that's best for you.
Best GoTrax Scooter Under $1000: GMax Ultra

When you're looking for a fast, smooth ride on a single charge, this is the electric scooter for you.
The scooter is designed to make everything about your commute as enjoyable as possible. When you purchase the GMax Ultra, you'll enjoy a dual braking system, improved stability, and upgraded pneumatic tires. The Gmax Ultra can also reach speeds of 25 mph, with a range of up to 45 miles. This makes it a great option for short commutes, as well as for handling the first few miles and last few miles of longer commutes. As a commuter, it's hard to go wrong with the GoTrax Gmax Ultra.

Best GoTrax Scooter Under $500: GoTrax G4
The GoTrax G4 is a distinct upgrade over previous models in the GoTrax scooter family, featuring a top speed of 20 mph, pneumatic tires, and new security features, as well as a large 374 watt battery. This makes it the scooter with the largest battery capacity in its class.
This is an ideal feature for commuters, as you'll have to charge your batteryless frequently in order to get around town. The GoTrax G4 has a range of 14.6 miles, which is more than enough for most commuters. Overall, it's a nicely made commuter scooter with a full set of features, making it a great option for those who need a scooter under $500.
The GoTrax G4 has a dual braking system, which means the scooter has both a rear disc brake and an electronic brake on the front wheel. As with all scooters that have a dual braking system, you activate the brakes with the hand brake on the handlebar. In our tests we found the braking system to be adequate for stopping but there are other models that boast better braking. In the scooter that we purchased, after about 30 miles, our brakes began to squeak a little. I cleaned the rear disc brake and it was fixed.
The GoTrax G4 is a great choice if you regularly make short trips, or if you need to drop your scooter off outside for short periods of time, as it comes equipped with digital locking system and it features a cable lock system built in. These features mean that you don't have to carry an extra lock around with you just for your scooter, reducing the overall weight that you need to carry for your commute.
The biggest improvement that we noted with this GoTrax scooter, however, are the pre-slimed pneumatic tires, which are a dramatic upgrade from air filled tires on previous models. Pre-slimed tires help limit punctures and flats, even on rough roads, as the slime helps keep the tires sealed and provides you with an even ride.
This means that you can commute without needing to pay special attention to your route, allowing the tires to handle rough spots on the road instead of needing to feel as if you must constantly avoid them on your own. The Gotrax G4 is designed to be an entry level commuter scooter, not a high performance racing machine.
It has a great set of features, including new locks, a large digital LED display and comfortable wide deck, making it a good deal for the money for anyone looking for a solid commuter scooter.

Best Adult Electric Scooters
GoTrax has developed a nice lineup of adult electric scooters. They have designed several perfect options for adults who need a scooter for commuting, whether you're zipping around a college campus, traveling in an urban environment, or commuting to and from the office.
We think GoTrax has built a solid lineup of scooters that fit the commuter at nearly every price point. What it comes down to is your particular use case, features you deem are necessary and price you want to spend.
Each GoTrax model designed for adults is great for handling the first few miles or last few miles of a public transit commute, so if you live farther away from your stop than you'd like, an adult electric scooter is a great way to bridge the gap.
These scooters are also just plain fun, making them enjoyable for weekend riding on trails, downtown, and more.
No matter your specific scooter needs, there's likely to be a GoTrax scooter that fits the bill.
However, if you've been considering a Segway scooter, Gotrax offers many comparable options, often at a lower price.
Let's take a look at the various GoTrax electric scooter models that are available for adults, as well as the Segway that they compare to, so that you can select the scooter that's the best option for your specific circumstances.
GoTrax G4
The Gotrax G4 features a dramatic upgrade to the models that came before it, as it comes equipped with giant pneumatic tires, a top speed of 20 mph, and a battery that's one of the largest in its class.
You're sure to enjoy many of the newer comfort features that it offers, as well as the ability to get around town in relative comfort and ease. The tires provide an amazingly smooth ride which stands out, especially if you've never ridden a scooter with this type of tire.
One thing that we noticed while reviewing this scooter is that many of the security features that some buyers may enjoy, may actually make enjoying it more difficult for other riders. For example, bypassing the lock and double tapping its thumb throttle after you kick it to start can take a little while, and some riders may find this process annoying - especially if they're used to just being able to hop on their scooter and immediately go. However, the security features also come in handy if you live in an urban environment or on a college campus and want to be able to keep your investment safe.
The GoTrax G4 is, overall, a great all-purpose commuter scooter, and it's comparable to the Segway Ninebot ES3, but with a significantly lower price tag. This makes it great for riders on a budget who still want to be able to get around town quickly and easily.
Overall, the G4 is an excellent budget commuter scooter, as long as you're prepared for the additional security measures that come along with the digital lock. This lock can, however, be disabled fairly easily, so if it continues to be a problem for you, you can eliminate the issue. Doing so will mean that you'll need to carry an additional lock with you so that you can lock your scooter up when you need to.
Overall, the Gotrax G4 is a scooter that offers solid performance for commuters. It's not a high-performance model, but it also doesn't have a high performance price tag. It comes equipped with a great speed, high battery capacity, and a reasonable price tag, so it's a solid entry-level product for individuals who've been considering an electronic scooter for commuting.

The Gotrax Apex also features upgraded tires with a newer, thicker exterior, so that they can hold the line more successfully against holes and punctures. They'll also provide you with a bit of extra shock absorption on rough roads. They're not pneumatic, however, so you may find that you experience some fatigue after long rides.
The Gotrax Apex is a great value for the price tag, as well. It's a super entry level competitor for the Kickscooter Max G30 LP, with a lower price tag and many similar options. Individuals who've been wanting to break into the electronic scooter market, but who don't want to spend a great deal of money to get started can't go wrong with this entry level model.

GoTrax XR Elite
The GoTrax XR Elite provides still another option for riders who are looking for a budget scooter that has a long range, yet is durable enough to ride daily. This scooter is comparable to the Segway Ninebot ES2, but retails for significantly less. Individuals who are interested in breaking in to the electric scooter market but don't want to invest for a luxury scooter may find that this is the perfect mid-range option for them.
The XR Elite doesn't have specific gear settings, so its speed is uncapped by gears and based only on the capabilities of the battery power of the scooter. Instead of shifting gears to change speeds, you can go as fast as you'd like.
The XR Elite also features a larger deck and an upgraded folding mechanism, larger tires, high powered LED tail lights and numerous reflectors, and an improved kickstand. These improved safety features and convenient options help keep you safe throughout your commute, increasing visibility and making it easy for you to get on and off of public transit. This scooter weighs 32 pounds, so it's still very reasonable for carrying up stairs or putting under your bus seat, and it folds down to a very compact size. It features 8.5 in pneumatic tires, creating one of the smoothest possible rides. These tires are designed to help limit punctures, while keeping your ride as comfortable as possible. The tires are also pre-slimed, protected them against punctures from bumps as you go about your daily routine.

Choosing the Best GoTrax Electric Scooter for Adults
As you select the best scooter for adults, there are a few things you'll need to keep in mind. You'll want to pay careful attention to the type of tires that the scooter has, as they'll play a large part in how comfortable the overall ride is.
If possible, select a scooter with pneumatic tires that have been pre-slimed. The slime helps keep any small punctures that the tires experience sealed, providing a cushion between you and any bumps or cracks in the road. You'll also want to select a scooter with a battery that can last you through your day, and that has the range that you need for your entire commute.
This helps make sure that you can get where you need to go, safely, and that you can get home at the end of the day. If you have a busy lifestyle, it may also make sense to select a scooter that has a fast charging time, so that if you do run the battery down, you can be up and running again in just a few hours.
As a commuter, choosing a scooter that's as portable as possible will also be important. You'll want to select a scooter that folds up small enough to fit in your bag, office, and entryway, and that is light enough for you to easily carry from place to place. You may need to fold the scooter up to take it up and down subway stairs, for example, so it's important that you be able to do this quickly and easily. Depending on how often you need to fold up the scooter entirely, you may want to seek out an ultra-portable scooter.
If you just need it to fold up to a reasonable size, then most portable electric scooters will do. You'll also want a scooter with the safety and security features that are most important to you. Do you need a scooter with its own lock? Do you need a scooter with multiple lights, as you do most of your riding in the dark? Be sure to evaluate the models that you're considering for these features.
Selecting an electric scooter with the features that matter most to you can help keep you safe on the road and help keep your scooter from being stolen, as well. Safety and security are easy to overlook, but they're vitally important.
Choosing the Best Kids Electric Scooter from GoTrax
As you pick out the best kids electric scooters from GoTrax, there are a few important things to keep in mind. You'll need to make sure that the scooter you select has the best features for your child or teen and their needs.
Do they primarily want a scooter to use for zipping around the neighborhood on the weekends? Or do they hope to be able to ride a scooter to and from school or a part time job?
The way that they'd like to use their electric vehicle can help you determine what type of scooter is the best buy for your family.
One important thing to evaluate as you select a kids electric scooter is the type of safety features that each model offers. Kids and teens may be new to riding a scooter, and they also may not always make the best decisions while out and about.
Having a scooter with as many safety features as possible on board can help limit the chance of an accident by boosting their visibility, increasing their braking ability, and making sure that they can see everything they need to as they drive.
There are various GoTrax kids electric scooters available, so it's easier than you'd think to find the perfect one to match your child or teenager's needs.
The GoTrax line of kids scooters has many models that are comparable to Segway electric scooters, while being substantially cheaper.
This allows you to pick out a scooter that works well for your teen, without needing to invest a large amount of money. They can try out the idea of an e scooter and decide what features they enjoy most, then upgrade to an adult model after they're a bit older.
Let's take a look at the available options and how they compare to their counterparts, so that you can make an informed decision about your purchase.
GoTrax Scooters for Kids
GKS Electric Scooter for Kids
The GoTrax GKS electric scooter for kids is lighter than many other kids scooters on the market and features a range of up to 4 miles. It has foot buttons for acceleration, which makes it popular with many younger riders.
This scooter is comparable to the Segway Ninebot Ekickscooter Zing E8, but significantly cheaper. It's a solid option for kids who are just getting started with their first e-scooter and need something fun and easy to ride, as it's fast to learn how to operate and simple to use. This scooter has no bells or lights, which means its safety options as far as visibility and audio signaling are limited.
If you select this scooter, be sure to monitor your child or teen carefully after dark, or consider adding aftermarket LED lights to enhance visibility.

GKS Pro Electric Scooter for Kids
While the GoTrax GKS is probably the best entry level scooter for kids, if you are looking for a little more speed and range then take a look at the GKS Pro electric scooter for kids. This model bumps up the speed from 7 mph to 9 mph because of its largery battery pack and boasts approximately 25% more range. A single charge with the GoTrax GKS Pro electric scooter will give your kids a total range of 5 mph whereas the GKS provides 4 mph.
The tires on the GKS Pro are solid rubber and are one half inch larger than those on the GKS. The GKS Pro is also larger overall, which means it is suitable for kids that are a little older. Ideally, kids that are about 10 years old will find this scooter is a perfect fit whereas the GoTrax GKS is a great scooter for 8 year old kids.
We suspect that GoTrax developed the GKS Pro scooter because Segway has several models that are designed for kids from 8-10 years of age. The GoTrax GKS competes with the Segway Zing E8 where the GoTrax GKS Pro is in very close competition with the Segway Zing E10.
Honestly, Segway builds a solid platform for kids. We love the zing lineup from Segway. To learn more about kids Segway scooters, take a look at our review of the Segway Zing E10 here.
GKS Lumios Electric Scooter
Another step up from the GKS and the GKS Pro is the GKS Lumios Electric Scooter. The Lumios features a neon LED front wheel, making it an eye-catching toy that your child and their friends are sure to enjoy. This scooter can provide almost 5 miles of range per charge, featuring a 200w motor (which is larger than that of the GKS and GKS Pro).
The GKS Lumious has a safe maximum speed of 7.5 mph, allowing your child to zip around your neighborhood with ease, showing off their light display along the way. This scooter is comparable to the Segway Ninebot Ekickscooter Zing E10.
GoTrax Glider Electric Scooter
The GoTrax Glider Electric Scooter is suitable for riders up to 220 lbs, making it a great option for teenagers. It can hit a maximum speed of 16 mph and is resistant to minor splashes. This scooter is designed for older children and teens, and can stand up to the pressure that they'll throw at it. It makes a great vehicle for zipping around the neighborhood with friends, and has a range of over 9 miles per charge. The GoTrax Glider is closely aligned with the Segway ES2 but is quite a bit cheaper.
Best Electric Scooter for Teens from GoTrax: The GoTrax Vibe
Vibe Electric Scooter for Teens
The GoTrax Vibe is available in 4 bright colors - red, silver, teal, and blue, and features a maximum speed of 15.5 mph. This scooter is designed for children and teens, and is comparable to the Segway Ninebot Ekickscooter Zing E12. It features a 250 watt motor and a range of 7 miles. This scooter weighs in at 21 pounds, making it manageable by teens on their own. This is a great way to provide your teen with a bit of independence, while allowing them to stay safe as they travel around your local area.
The Vibe is a great option for Teens. Take a look at our in-depth GoTrax Vibe review.
GoTrax G2 Electric Scooter
If you're looking for something that's sleek and simple for your teen, the G2 is the best pick. While the Vibe comes in cool colors, sometimes teenagers think colors are more for little kids. The G2 boasts a 200 watt motor, max speed of 15.5 mph and an overall range of 7 miles on a single charge. Essentially, the G2 and the vibe are the same scooter but the G2 only comes in black.
Choosing the Best Electric Scooter for Kids
When you're choosing the best scooter for kids, it's important to have an idea about what you want before you start shopping. Knowing a little about what you'd like to buy before you make the investment can help ensure that you make a purchase that's correct for your family.
You'll wind up with a scooter that your child or teen can enjoy riding and maintaining, at a price that you're happy with. First, spend some time talking with your child, tween, or teen about the type of scooter that they want and what features they need it to have.
Do they need something that goes fast, stands up to hills and jumps, or just lets them get around the neighborhood? Will they only be out during the day, or will they need a scooter that has lights?
Will you need a scooter that's lightweight and folds easily? Selecting the right kind of scooter will help make sure that your teen can move their scooter around on their own, fold it up without help, and store it as needed. This can be incredibly helpful, as you don't want to consistently be helping them fold and unfold their new vehicle.
Evaluating these components can help ensure that your child or teen is able to go where they need to go safely while keeping up with the overall flow of traffic on the street or sidewalk without causing a safety issue or obstruction. Do you need a scooter with extra safety and security features? This can help your teenager keep it locked up safely as they travel around town, work a part-time job, or move around their college campus without the need to pay for gas.
Some electric scooters have built-in cable locks, for example, to make it easier to lock them up safely. If you're buying a scooter for a younger child, you'll definitely want to purchase a scooter with a lock or a lock for the scooter, so that you can keep it locked up and eliminate disappointment.
You should also keep a few other factors in mind such as your child's age, your child's physical size, and how far they plan to go on their scooter. Knowing this information will help ensure that the scooter that you select will meet their needs so that they aren't continually disappointed by the battery life or range they get on a single charge.
Selecting a scooter that isn't right for their height or weight, for example, may lead to ongoing frustration. The same will happen if you select a scooter that isn't designed to go as far as they'd like to throughout the course of a day or week, as they'll constantly be charging their scooter instead of riding it.
In addition, you'll also need to budget for appropriate safety gear for your child to go with their scooter, including a high-quality helmet. If they've never ridden a scooter before, they may also need knee and elbow pads until they've gotten used to riding and learned how to maintain their balance. Once they've gotten the hang of riding their scooter, they'll only need the helmet.

Overall, GoTrax provides a solid lineup of scooters. As a scooter company, they have done a good job with fit and finish of each of their models. They feel solid, ride smoothly and provide a solid range and speed at an economical price.
We have found that most GoTrax scooters don't hit the speed or range that is advertised. In general, GoTrax scooters top end speed tends to be about 15-20% lower than that of what they advertise. The same goes for the overall range.
We would also like to see a GoTrax app for each of their scooters. Many of their competitors, like Segway and Kugoo, offer an app that allows you to view trip distance, to control the scooter (turning the headlight on and off, turning the scooter on and off, etc.) and to lock the scooter. Other than the lack of a GoTrax app and the range and speed issue mentioned above, we think GoTrax offers some of the best bang for your buck in the industry.
