Imax S1+ review – A beast of power among e-scooters?

The Imax S1+ model is a lithium-ion powered electric scooter with a great track record. It’s been providing ever smooth rides to its users for years. However, there’s one drawback and that is the price.

The Imax s1+ sets you back a bit over a grand and there are a lot of electric scooters that are cheaper. But you get what you pay for, not many of them come close to the S1+ when it comes to quality and performance. Without further ado, let’s head into the review itself.

Review

The Imax S1+ is equipped with a powerful LG 10Ah 48V lithium-ion battery mounted within its deck that can provide you with a comfortable 15-20 miles per charger. The battery then powers a powerful rear-mounted gear-less 500W hub motor that can deliver a top speed of up to 20 mph. A scooter with good performance and low weight. Those looking for even more power should check out the Speedway mini, but it weighs a lot more.

Out of juice? Well, it’ll only take you roughly 3 hours to replenish your battery and you’re all set for another adventure.

It has a push throttle, or shall I say trigger throttle as you pull it towards you with the pointing finger instead of pushing it with your thumb. A bit unusual to say the least and I didn’t think I’d get used to it, but eventually, I did.

It has a height adjustable handle and it folds together nice and tight for easy storage.

A good and accurate LCD-display that gives you real-time data of speed, distance, and battery level. If you intend to use it at night the display can be backlit. The display also lets you set one of the five different speed modes that let you cap the speed at various levels.

The rear disc brake is more than enough to let you stop on a dime if you ever need to and the handles are very ergonomic and comfortable to hold on to.

The scooter is built of high-quality parts and it can handle heavy-duty. It is a somewhat lightweight electric scooter at 36 lbs and it has no problem pushing 210 lbs up a semi-steep hill.

Specifications:

Speed up to 20 mph

A distance of up to 20 miles per charge

Hub motor 500W

Lithium-ion 48V 10Ah

Weight 36 lbs

10″ pneumatic tires

Riding experience

Just by unboxing and getting your hands on the Imax S1+ you can instantly feel that what you’re holding is a quality scooter. So it might be a bit heavy, but that’s what you get when you choose quality.

The large 10” air-filled tires provide the electric scooter with good shock reduction while also enabling riding on uneven terrain.

I tested riding up a pretty steep slope around 17 degrees with my 178 lbs and it handled that without any issues at around 16 mph which is very impressive.

The motor is very impressive and has a peak power of 700W which gives you a lot of torque and it had no problem at all delivering the promised speed of 20 mph on a flat surface. The rear disc brake does the job well and since the scooter doesn’t have an insane top speed it can get it to stop very quickly.

It fits perfectly in the trunk and folds down very nicely for a big scooter. The only downside here is the weight which makes it a bit heavy to carry around on. But you can use the front wheel to roll it.

Last words of recommendation

The Imax S1+ is a very sturdy and well-built electric scooter that is perfect for heavy-duty usage. The pneumatic tires give it a good ground clearance that fits both urban riding and off-road providing you with more comfort thanks to the shock reduction that the tires provide.

A good choice for both teenagers and adults, just a friendly reminder that it might be a bit heavy for a teenager.

Overall a great choice if you’re looking for a quality scoot to get you around. It has enough distance per charge and speed to suit most of the everyday users.
