Handlebars / Information Center / Tech Stack
The Segway ES1 scooter features handlebars that are well-designed with minimalistic looks having a small LED screen that displays speed modes, speed, and current battery state. Braking and acceleration are easily controlled with hand controls on both sides. The Segway ES1 L scooter handlebars grips are foam, giving you a comfortable grip and absorbing some of the vibrations and bumps. However, one disadvantage is that the foam grips feel like they will wear out quickly, and they can be harder to clean compared to rubber ones. In addition to that, on the far end of the Segway ES1 L scooter handlebar grips, there are plastic endings that feel loose.
Tires
The Segway ES1 L scooter comes with 7.5 inches back and an 8-inch front, “inner-support hollow solid tire system.” Boy, that’s a mouthful!
For all intents and purposes, it’s a solid tire — meaning that it’s not an air-filled tire.
We feel that Segway could achieve a smoother ride with the ES1L if they utilized a pneumatic tire system.
The maintenance-free, shock-absorbent, and flat-free tires can give you a decent ride. It’s not terrible. My personal preference just happens to be pneumatic tires. However, the drawback with air-filled tires is that you run the risk of a flat when you’re far from home. That would suck.
Shock Absorber
The Segway ES1 L has a less than robust shock absorber system. There is a small shock absorber on the stem of the scooter and no rear shock absorber. I feel like if they are going to use solid tires, at least put two shocks on the machine. However, I totally understand that Segway is trying to deliver a solid platform at a decent price.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a rough ride at all. It could just be better if they had a shock absorber on the front and back.
Lights
The LED lights for the segway Ninebot ES 1 L scooter are pretty good. The headlight has the capability of lighting up things that are up to 44 feet in front of the scooter.
The LED lights ensure that the rider can see when cruising in low light conditions or at night. The lights are meant to guarantee your safety when encountering incoming objects, especially in dim environments. The lights illuminate the road ahead without dazzling cars and people coming in the opposite direction.
Braking
The Segway ES1 L scooter has both rear and front braking. The electronic brake (front) and foot (rear brake) are meant to protect the rider’s safety. When using the rear brakes, you must manually push down the rear fender with one of your feet to slow it down.
This is another place where Segway was able to cut out cost but also weight. Not a bad thing. They bill the ES1L as being a “featherweight” machine at 24.9 lbs.
Max Speed
The maximum speed the Segway Ninebot ES1 L scooters can reach is 12.4 miles per hour in sports mode. That is quite disappointing for electric scooters available in the market these days, but there is a fix to this problem.
The speed is enough to climb clines of up to 10 degrees. The scooter has a speed limit mode where you can limit your speed by holding the off/on button to set it to the sport mode, normal, or economy mode. Alternatively, you can set an exact maximum speed limit using the Segway Ninebot app.
Range
The Segway ES1 L scooter comes with a 500W “hallless” hub motor that can take you up to 12.4 miles when the battery is fully charged. This new “hallless” hub motor design has a bunch of fancy-scmancy features to it but all you need to care about is the technology allows the motor to run for 3,000 hours longer than its predecessors.
This distance of the ES1 L is generally good compared to what other lightweight scooters provide. However, you can get cheaper scooters that will travel the same distance at about the same speed for a lower price. Just sayin’
However, don’t take that to mean we don’t love the scooter. The styling and lightweight characteristics make this model well worth the price.
While technology is rapidly advancing, the Segway ES1 L scooter holds its own against modern competitors, alongside maintaining a not-too-hateful price tag.
Water Resistance
The Segway ES1 L scooter is waterproof at IP54 level. This means you can drive your scooter through water puddles and in the rain. However, note that the Segway ES1 L scooter cannot be underwater or water streams. In addition, it is not recommended to use the scooter under heavy rains.
Colors
